The door bell
A dark winter night and Emily, a thirteen years old young little girl is all alone at her two storied house. Her parents Mr. and Mrs. Agarwal will not return home to night as they have to stay in the hospital where Emily's maternal grandmother is admitted for pneumonia. At around 9:00pm Emily had her dinner that was made prepared on the table by their house help.
As Emily was about to go upstairs after her dinner the door bell rang. Emily was scared. Emily walked towards the door and kept her eye on the peephole. She could see a man with a hat and a big umbrella in hand, which the man is holding like a stick. In the mean time the door bell rang once again. Emily somehow gathered courage and opened the door. The man on the other side of the door smiled with eyes full of deep rooted emotions in it. Emily asked, "Who are you?". The man said, "My little angel, you can't recognise me. Tell your father about me, I am Mr. Sharma." The man gave a piece of folded paper to her and said her to give it to her father. The man adored Emily by rubbing his hands over her cheeks and then left their house. Emily locked the door and went to bed.
Next morning Emily turned fourteen. Yes, it's Emily's birthday. She woke up hearing the door bell. This time it's her parents who came with balloons and cake for Emily and assured her that her granny is in better condition in the hospital. The family of three made themselves ready for the purpose of celebriting the birthday. As they finished the cake cutting ritual Emily was reminded of the man who came last night. She informed her father about last night's incident and handed over that piece of paper to him. Both Mr. and Mrs. Agarwal was going through the paper and tears rolled down their cheeks.
Emily was not ready for this scenario. She was curious to know what made her parents cry. Mr.Agarwal said, "My little girl I need to disclose a powerful truth to you on your special day." And he goes on telling a story. Sixteen years back Mr and Mrs Agarwal came as tenants to this particular house where they are now standing. This house belonged to the Sharma's, who had a beautiful little daughter. The Sharma couple went to a weekend road drive, keeping their little girl to their tenant, Mr. and Mrs.Agarwal. Sharmas' never came back as they died in an accident. Since then the little girl became the daughter of the Agarwals. The little girl is none but Emily, adopted by Mr. and Mrs. Agarwal.
On hearing the description of the man who came last night Mr.Agarwal was shocked. It's exactly how Mr.Sharma looked. The piece of paper is actually the Will of the house that claims, as Emily becomes eighteen years old she will become the owner of this house and all the property of Sharma's.
Just a single door bell and a mountain like truth came under lime light. In the mean time Mrs. Agarwal's phone rang. The call is from the hospital. Mrs.Agarwal's mother is no more.
Excellent !
